Scientific Notes
Saponin-rich bark extract from Quillaja saponaria (soapbark tree); used as a natural foaming agent in soft drinks, root beer, and cocktail mixers. EFSA has authorised use in certain non-alcoholic water-based flavoured drinks. Saponins at high doses can have haemolytic activity — limited to controlled use levels.
