Privacy Policy

Overview
Looksee (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a product transparency tool. We are committed to collecting as little personal data as possible. Most of the site works with no account and no data collection at all.
Information we collect
Unauthenticated visitors
If you browse or search without creating an account, we do not collect any personal information. Product searches and barcode lookups are processed anonymously. Like any website, the services that deliver Looksee process standard request data (such as your IP address) — see Third-party services below.
Waitlist email
If you submit your email address to join the app waitlist, we store that address solely to notify you when the mobile app launches. We do not share it with third parties and you can request deletion at any time by emailing [email protected].
Account holders
If you create an account — with an email address and password, or through Google or Apple sign-in — we store your email address and, where you add one or your sign-in provider shares it, a display name and avatar. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never stored in plain text. This information is used to identify your account and display your profile. We never sell or rent account data.
Public profile and contributions
If you submit products or fix product data, your username or display name, avatar, and points appear on your public profile page and on the public leaderboard. Approved submissions and corrections become part of the Looksee product dataset.
Analytics
We do not currently run any analytics or tracking scripts on Looksee. If that changes, we will update this policy first. No data is shared with advertising networks.
Third-party services
- Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Data is stored on servers in the United States. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
- Cloudflare — sits in front of the site as our content delivery and security layer, provides the bot check on sign-up and sign-in (Turnstile), and routes email sent to [email protected]. It processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare's privacy policy is available at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
- Hosting — the site runs on a cloud server we operate ourselves. Standard server logs are used only for debugging and security.
- Open Food Facts — product photos are loaded directly from Open Food Facts' image servers, so your browser requests them from Open Food Facts when you view a product. Their privacy policy is available at world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy.
Cookies
We use only strictly necessary cookies: session cookies that keep logged-in users signed in, and security cookies Cloudflare may set to protect the site from abuse. We do not use tracking, advertising, or analytics cookies. You can use Looksee without accepting any cookies simply by not creating an account.
Data retention
Waitlist emails are deleted within 30 days of the app launch. Account data is retained until you delete your account. You may request deletion of any personal data we hold by contacting us at [email protected].
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
Children
Looksee is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of Looksee after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
