Edible oil from the fruit of Elaeis guineensis, the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world. High in saturated palmitic acid (~44%), which is associated with elevated LDL cholesterol when consumed in excess of dietary needs. Its large-scale production is linked to significant tropical deforestation and loss of biodiversity, particularly in Indonesia and Malaysia.
