About

What to know

Sulfated polysaccharides (E407) extracted from red seaweed species including Chondrus crispus and Gigartina. Food-grade carrageenan is a high-molecular-weight polymer considered safe at typical food levels by FDA and EFSA; it is distinct from degraded poligeenan, which is not permitted in food. Some consumer groups advocate avoidance; individuals with inflammatory bowel conditions may prefer to limit intake.
